| Sunspot Press was created to publish one book - a book that readers loved and editors praised. When I started approaching agents and publishers with My Other Body, the response was encouraging. "Your story is compelling," they said, "and the writing is wonderful. We're sure it will find a home. Unfortunately, we're not that home. We don't see how to market this story." At the same time, readers of early versions were telling me that the story had touched their lives. They were reading it to their spouses, their parents, and their therapists, using the book to explain their own feelings about body image, love, and loss. And readers were asking me to publish it as soon as possible. So I decided to have the same faith in the book that its readers did. |

| Why not go to a traditional publisher? The biggest reason is time. If the book were accepted tomorrow, it could take two years before people could read it. Life's too short to put your dreams on someone else's calendar. Isn't the book good enough for one of the big publishers? I'm happy to let you judge. Read part of the book to see what you think. When can I get a copy? Now! If it's not in your local bookstore, ask them to order it. You can always buy a copy through this web site (which helps most to keep the book alive!) or on Amazon. Check our book news for the latest info. And see the speaker's info page to book the author for readings and group discussions. Is self-publishing "real" publishing? You bet. Starting a press is a serious investment in yourself and in the others you publish. See resources for self-publishing in the Sunspot Links page. |
